Thought
Ruth’s whole life, as much as we know of it, was a portrait of selfless, loyal service. And it was service done through difficult circumstances. As a Moabite, widowed and penniless, she left her homeland and traveled with Naomi to the land of the Israelites. Israel saw Moab as an enemy land, filled with pagans who worshipped many gods. As a foreigner and a woman, Ruth was in a vulnerable position. But she served Naomi faithfully and boldly, going out into places where she knew no one and gathering food. And God saw her service and blessed her with a role in the line that eventually would produce the great king of Israel, David, and ultimately, Jesus Christ. God will always take what we have and multiply it.
